MQ: Pastoral Internship Grant Opportunity for Canadian Students

Wanting to encourage young persons to consider pastoral ministry, the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches in partnership with Ministry Quest will provide seven $1,000.00 scholarships for churches who engage a student between the ages of 17 and 25 in a pastoral internship. Congregations must complete an application for these funds prior to May 15, 2007.

Scholarship Criteria

  1. The internship must be described as a Pastoral Internship.
  2. The church must designate a pastoral supervisor who will meet with the intern weekly for: conversation about the nature and life of pastoral ministry, assignment and monitoring of work related to the pastoral internship, and theological reflection and spiritual formation.
  3. A learning covenant shall be established and submitted.
  4. A ministry discernment process shall be completed at the end of the internship (following the guidance provided in Finding Leaders for Tomorrow’s Churches).
  5. The intern and the supervisor shall co-write a 650 word article for
the MB Herald about the impact of the internship experience.

Application Process

Contact John Neufeld at 1-888-669-6575 or jneufeld@mbconf.ca and an
application will be sent (where possible the application for provincial denominational scholarships will serve as the application for this grant in order to reduce the amount of paperwork a church must do).

Funds are limited and will be dispersed as completed applications are received.

Churches are also encouraged to contact their provincial conference minister about internship grants and their provincial government offices about student employment grants
