Former MBBS Professor and Dean Becomes Dean of Fuller's School of Theology
Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary’s former academic dean Howard J. Loewen has become dean of Fuller Seminary’s School of Theology in Pasadena.
Loewen is a graduate of MB Biblical Seminary in 1971 and has served as both the provost and academic vice president for Fresno Pacific University. “Fuller’s new dean brings extraordinary gifts of energy and vision of the School of Theology,” says former Provost Russell Spittler, who was instrumental in Dr. Loewen’s selection. “Howard brings to Fuller a fine sense of community, collegiality, and responsibility.” “This appointment marks a significant contribution the MB Biblical Seminary is making in the theological world,” MB Seminary President Henry Schmidt commented. “He was a tremendous asset to the Seminary and Fresno Pacific University and will be a continuing asset to the theological world in his new position. We congradulate him on his new appointment.”
Dr. Loewen has participated extensively in ecumenical dialogue, including the International Catholic-Mennonite Dialogue; the International Reformed-Mennonite Dialogue; the National Council of Churches’ ecumenical dialogue; and the Chicago Call, in which Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox scholars called for a return to the classical roots of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Dr. Loewen will be installed as Dean and Professor of Theology and Ethics in a ceremony at the First Congregational Church in Pasadena on Tuesday, November 6, at 10 a.m.
